For the second year in a row, Phillips 66 Pipeline has been recognized as one of the midstream industry’s safest operators.
The wholly owned Midstream subsidiary of Phillips 66 received the American Petroleum Institute’s Distinguished Pipeline Safety Award in the large-operator category.
Phillips 66 Pipeline’s safety performance in 2021 included a second straight year without an employee recordable injury, and its safest year yet with a combined total recordable incident rate of 0.03.
“Our workforce’s deep commitment to safety and operational excellence every day is reflected in our results,” said Tim Roberts, Executive Vice President, Midstream. “We achieved this outstanding performance in yet another challenging year, when we navigated the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic as well as natural disasters such as Hurricane Ida and Winter Storm Uri.”
Last year, Phillips 66 focused its efforts on pipeline integrity by replacing and rerouting pipelines throughout its 22,000-mile-plus system. It also safely executed pipeline projects that strengthened its natural gas liquids presence.
API praised Philips 66 for advancing safety by implementing new technologies that improve efficiency and reliability and for taking a proactive approach to stakeholder engagement.
API President and CEO Mike Sommers said Phillips 66 and the other winners are raising the bar for safety and placing a “premium on improvement, innovation and sharing knowledge and best practices across the industry.”
